Another superb medicinal that can be used as a lawn is Common Yarrow.īut topping the list for the most desirable groundcovers and stepables are by far Creeping Thyme and Corsican Mint. After a few times of being mowed the plant will begin to dwarf making upkeep even simpler. As a groundcover, Roman Chamomile has the benefit of being able to endure being mowed with a lawnmower or weed whacker to keep it at lawn height. The daisy-like white flowers can be used to treat the symptoms of colds and to soothe the stomach and nervous system. This wonderful perennial grows to a height of around 6" and can take either full sun or part shade. It forms a dense evergreen mat that smells deliciously like apples. Chamomile is one of the oldest herbs in continuous use since the time of the Egyptians, who dedicated it to the gods. We have a short list of favorite groundcovers that we have used successfully in our own gardens and have had positive feedback from customers in using them in their own gardens.įor many years we had Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) in the path of our Medicinal Garden. They give "patio plant" a whole new meaning - not just a plant in a pot on the patio, but a part of the patio itself! The appeal of herbal groundcovers as a low maintenance alternative to lawns shows little sign of fading. They work well between pavers, in low-use areas of the yard, or as a transition from the path to taller plants beyond. Herbal groundcovers such as creeping thyme and Corsican mint make fragrant stepables for garden paths, walkways and herbal lawns. Groundcovers and stepables are an important part of the herb garden.

Season the other side, flip and cook for a couple more minutes. Sear chicken in oil, skin side down, for about 3 minutes or until a dark gold brown crust forms. Sprinkle about ⅔ of the seasoning on the skin side of the chicken. Parmesan Cheese - This is another important ingredient because it just takes this casserole to the next level with its naturally salty, nutty flavor.Ĭombine paprika, garlic powder and a large pinch of salt and pepper. It is a must and really shouldn't be substituted. Heavy Cream - This is the key to make this casserole perfectly creamy.Chicken Broth - If you don't have chicken broth on hand, vegetable broth will work in its place. This particular rice blend works best in this recipe. You get the starchy, fluffy rice from the basmati and a level of nuttiness from the wild rice blend. Rice - I love the texture and flavor of a basmati and wild rice blend for this dish.Fresh Thyme - This is the only fresh herb I used in this recipe because it’s just so dang good fresh, but you can use dried thyme if you’re in a pinch.Fresh Veggies - This chicken and rice casserole recipe calls for the classic mirepoix veggies - carrots, celery, and onion - as well as garlic. But you could use any seasonings you prefer - a seasoned salt or poultry seasoning, or even Italian seasoning. Dry Seasonings - I like the combination of paprika, garlic powder, dried rosemary, kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper for this recipe because it’s reminiscent of chicken noodle soup.Chicken Thighs - We want bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs for this recipe so that we achieve as much savory, delicious chicken flavor as possible.Olive Oil - I like extra virgin olive oil for the flavor, but you could also use any other light-tasting oil with a high smoke point, like avocado. If you loved this one pot dinner be sure to check out my One Skillet Walking Taco Casserole, One Pot Garlic Parmesan Pasta, or my Vegetarian Skillet Pot Pie.The starch from the rice combines with heavy cream and shredded Parmesan in this recipe, giving this casserole just the right amount of rich creaminess without reaching for the Campbell's. But there are other ways to give your casserole that same creamy texture without the use of condensed soup. And don't get me wrong, it was delicious.
Select the project file, the Gangstribe target and then the General tab. Open Gangstribe.xcodeproj in the starter project folder for this speech recognition tutorial for iOS. Getting Startedĭownload the sample project here. The Speech Recognition framework doesn’t work in the simulator, so be sure to use a real device with iOS 10 (or later) for this speech recognition tutorial for iOS. This session video explains many of the systems and terminology we’ll use in this speech recognition tutorial for iOS. The 2014 WWDC session AVAudioEngine in Practice is a great intro to this, and can be found at /28tATc1. If you haven’t used AVAudioEngine before, you may want to familiarize yourself with that framework first. The section on live recordings will use AVAudioEngine. It will also get users in the mood to record their own rap hits with a live audio transcriber that draws emojis on their faces based on what they say. In this speech recognition tutorial for iOS, you’ll build an app called Gangstribe that will transcribe some pretty hardcore (hilarious) gangster rap recordings using speech recognition. You could also create an app that could automatically transcribe audio from Simpsons episodes so you could search for your favorite lines. For example, you could create an app that takes a photo when you say “cheese”. Speech Recognizer creates some truly amazing possibilities in your apps. This lets you react to voice input very quickly, regardless of context, unlike Keyboard Dictation, which is tied to a specific input object. It even adapts results to the user using information about their contacts, installed apps, media and various other pieces of data.Īudio fed to a recognizer is transcribed in near real time, and results are provided incrementally. The engine is fast and accurate and can currently interpret over 50 languages and dialects. Target 12.2: In 2019, the total material footprint was 95.9 billion tonnes, close to the world’s domestic material consumption of 95.1 billion tonnes. Yet, reporting has been decreasing by 30% on average every year since 2019 and continues to reflect great regional imbalances with more than 50% of policy instruments reported from Europe and Central Asia. Target 12.1: Between 20, 484 policy instruments supporting the shift to sustainable consumption and production were reported by 62 countries and the European Union, with increasing linkages with global environmental commitments on climate, biodiversity, pollution and waste, as well as a particular attention to high-impact sectors. To deliver SDG12, it is crucial to implement policies that support the shift to sustainable practices and decouple economic growth from resource use. Reporting on corporate sustainability has tripled since the beginning of the SDG period, but the private sector will need to significantly improve reporting on activities that contribute to the SDGs. But the global economy also needs to speed up the decoupling of economic growth from resource use by maximizing the socio-economic benefits of resources while minimizing their negative impacts. Responsible consumption and production must be an integral part of the recovery from the pandemic. The world is seriously off track in its effort to halve per-capita food waste and losses by 2030.The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant impacts on consumption and production patterns, with disruptions to global supply chains and changes in consumer behaviour. To recover the items you have to go to the fetch icon (dog chasing a ball - who knew that!?) and type in Pan or Tape to recover the icon. For example, you can lose the Pan icon while using Orbit or, using Dimension tool you lose the Tape Measure. Inexplicably you lose standard tools from the side bar. The mouse click on a function doesn’t always change the mode you’re in, you have to sometimes click slowly and deliberately to ensure the programme knows what tool to use next. Star Fox Zero was a mediocre reboot of Nintendo’s sci-fi franchise that incorporated the GamePad to mixed results. Star Fox Guard Image used with permission by copyright holder Devil’s Third will only get even more expensive once it isn’t available digitally, so those who want to experience this train wreck need to get it on the eShop before the storefront closes down. Copies already go for $350 or more, but the eShop had remained an easy way to introduce people to the game until now. Its multiplayer mode shut down a year after launch, and now its single-player will be lost forever unless someone tracks down a ridiculously expensive physical copy.ĭevil’s Third is one of the rarest Wii U games as it had a fairly limited physical release in North America. It will forever be one of the weirdest games in Nintendo’s catalog and one that the company probably won’t ever acknowledge again. But Devil’s Third thinks it’s so cool with its tattooed, drum-playing Vin Diesel-looking protagonist that one can’t help but find it adorable.įirmly in so bad it’s good territory, it’s astounding that Nintendo chose to publish Devil’s Third. This is a bombastic and poorly constructed adventure with a dumb story and janky combat that never flows together smoothly. It follows a buff assassin named Ivan as he tracks down members of a secret organization that he used to be a part of, but it’s not like the plot is good or anything. Still, it’s such a beautiful disaster that we recommend every Wii U owner plays it. Devil’s Third Image used with permission by copyright holderĭevil’s Third is not a good game it’s outright terrible. Even if that were to happen, the Wii U version of Affordable Space Adventures would likely still be the best way to play it.Īffordable Space Adventures is a digital-only title, meaning interested players need to buy it (and its DLC) soon. If Affordable Space Adventures were to be ported to another platform, it’d either have to lose those micromanaging systems or clunkily incorporate those ship management controls onto just one screen. To complete levels and ensure that the spacecraft stays safe and stable, players micromanage various systems on the GamePad’s touchscreen. Players can customize the Arts palette as their characters learn new Arts.Pick up these Nintendo games you can only get on Wii U and 3DS As characters improve in different classes, they will learn new combat and defensive skills, or Arts. Players can customize everything about their character’s appearance, including gender, shapes, height, skin color, voice and tattoos. Riding and controlling a weaponized mech, players can explore every inch of the massive open world displayed in gorgeous high-definition graphics, filled with strange and imaginative creatures, from small bugs to giant beasts. Players engage in battles against powerful creatures of all forms and sizes using the deep battle system that builds on the triumphs of the team’s previous RPG adventures. In Xenoblade Chronicles X, a terrible intergalactic war leaves just a handful of Earth survivors trying to live in a beautiful yet hostile environment. There is a WiiU emulator, called Cemu, which makes games designed for WiiU to be playable on Windows platform.
I don’t have a preference for rosin in fact, I’m currently using some Cecilio rosin I got ages ago. The bow needs to be well balanced always look for reviews that mention the bow. I love carbon fiber bows for durability, but most student instruments come with brazilwood bows. D’Addario Prelude Strings is the student beginning student standard, and I’m happy to see those offered. In terms of strings, I prefer Thomastiks Dominants or Fiddlershop’s strings for student violins. The key is to look for the word varnish in the listing.Įverything Else includes the strings, bow, rosin, shoulder rest, and any other accessories you will find. Hand-oil rubbed varnish is ideal, but most basic student models just come with a basic varnish in varying colors and finishes. Many student instruments come with a heavy lacquer style finish that weighs the violin down and dulls the tone. The Finish, otherwise known as the varnish, is another important aspect of a violin. Additionally, detachable fine tuners can easily be replaced, whereas built-in fine tuners can’t. I prefer detachable fine tuners, so students can remove them once they are comfortable tuning the G, D, and A strings with their pegs. Student instruments come with four fine tuners, either detachable or built-in. Tailpieces and fine tunersare part of the fitting package but are very important on student instruments. I love rosewood fittings but prefer ebony on student instruments for the standardized look, especially as students start to play in ensembles and orchestras. Student instruments typically come with ebony fittings very cheap student violins come with dyed hardwood fittings, which can mean anything. These can be made from hardwoods, and different professional violinists will have different preferences. This can only be determined by a luthier and is one of the biggest reasons to take your violin for a full setup.įittings include the pegs, tailpiece, chin rest, and endpin. A proper angle will also help students learn not to hit strings. Professionals’ bridge preferences will vary, and some may even have custom bridges made.Ī standard bridge that evenly spaces the strings and raises them to the right height for bowing is important for students. More importantly, the bridge needs to be correctly shaped and measured. The Bridge is an essential aspect of the violin as it helps hold the strings up and vibrate to produce sound it also helps keep the soundpost intact. For less than 50 dollars more, you can get a violin with an ebony fingerboard and a longer lifespan. This is alright since these instruments aren’t going to last a student more than a year or two but are still not preferred. Lower-end student instruments, including some Cecilio and Mendini instruments, use maple fingerboards. This is why fingerboards on violins and other orchestral strings instruments are typically made from very durable yet bendy ebony wood. They need to be durable and able to withstand oils and dirt from constant skin contact but also flexible so they can be shaped correctly. You risk getting a violin likely made from pressed wood that will break easily and sound horrible.įingerboards are an important part of the violin. Violins that don’t specify solid carved tonewoods or use other types of wood in the body aren’t quality. Violins are made from solid carved spruce tops with maple backs and sides because these hardwoods are both durable and carry sound waves nicely. If your tonewoods aren’t made from quality wood, your violin will not sound like a quality violin. Tonewoods make the violin, and they influence the sound of the violin the most. Things to Look for When Purchasing a Violin Onlineīefore we jump into the review, I want to talk about what makes a quality violin and what to look for as you search. Will need professionally set up by luthier. The bow will need to be replaced right away. The violin will need new strings right away I recommend Dominants.Comes with everything needed to get started.Overall it’s a perfect student violin for the price, and I’d highly recommend it. The sound is lovely in my opinion, but it may not suit everyone’s taste. It’d be great for someone who has rented for a month or two or borrowed and wants their own violin, especially for the price. Still, I put this violin firmly in the serious new student category. The CVN 500 is considered their step-up instrument for advancing students. While they don’t produce top-of-the-line instruments, they produce basic student-quality instruments that get students started and some that can become faithful companions for years of learning. Cecilio is a large manufacturer of inexpensive student-quality instruments made in China. Manage your subscriptions in your Account Settings after purchase. Deciding to fight finally for the man she loves with "jungle red" claws, Mary tricks Sylvia, who has become friendly with Crystal, into publicly disclosing her friend's infidelity. Mary still longs for Stephen, but has abandoned all hope of ever reconciling with him until her daughter, Little Mary, confides Stephen's misery with his new wife. Two years later, Crystal, now bored with Stephen, turns to singing cowboy Buck Winston, the countess' new, young husband, for entertainment. On the day that Mary's divorce is to become final, the worldly and wise Miriam sternly lectures her to foresake her pride and take back her husband, but Mary is too late, for Stephen has been ensnared by Crystal. Soon after arriving at a dude ranch for women, they are joined by Sylvia, who has been cast aside by her husband for the kinder Miriam. On the train, Mary meets her confused friend, Peggy Day, who has just left her new husband, as well as Miriam Aarons and Flora, the Countess De Lave, as they all flock to Reno to file for divorce. Her pride wounded, Mary demands a divorce and is soon on her way to Reno. Much to Sylvia's delight, the two rivals' meeting erupts into a major conflagration that makes the front page of the society columns. Morehead, counsels her to keep silent and ignore the advice of her friends, but while at a fashion show, Mary unexpectedly encounters the conniving gold digger Crystal. While having her nails painted "jungle red," the vindictively swivel-tongued Sylvia Fowler learns from Olga, the manicurist, that her good friend Mary Haines's husband Stephen is embroiled in an affair with perfume clerk Crystal Allen. |
